As the new owner of an older Bridgeport clone milling machine, this book was recommended as a first purchase. Am I ever glad to have followed up on that advice! This book contains a myriad of descriptive photographs of assemblies, parts, and procedures. The print is in large font; oh so nice for these old eyes of mine. Applying the methods detailed in this book I was able to effect a repair of a faulty fine down-feed and feed-stop without having to purchase new parts. This book paid for itself the first day it arrived, and as it turns out, my new/old machine is a gem of a mill. Anyone looking to buy a used milling machine, especially a Bridgeport or BP-clone, should seriously consider purchasing this book beforehand. This is an example of an excellent book. The pictures and the text are made by a real professional.
These are the best books available to rebuild or repair your Bridgeport with.
Reassembly instructions aren't as detailed as the disassembly instructions. If you don't have a good memory or you're worried about making a mistake, you have to actually go back and read the disassembly instructions in reverse order.
Not super impressed, but before I bought this I did a lot of research online, seems like most of this info is available online if you have the time and do the research. I was certainly expecting better.
This book starts by defining what it IS- a refurbishment guide- and is NOT- a total overhaul guide. The various stages of disassembly, inspection, and reassembly are well supported by text and photos. It does a good job of filling in the understanding gaps for those who have studied the parts breakdowns in the manuals and are mechanically fluent but have not actually worked on one of these machines before. The only reason for 4 vs 5 stars is that it gets a bit brief in some sections. Overall well worth the cost.
